Being happy, according to science, means maintaining a balance that allows the brain to work agilely and stay healthy. In principle, we should all get to that without much problem, since the natural thing is that we protect ourselves and preserve our good health.

In a contradictory way, many people live as if they were enemies of themselves. They hurt themselves, physically and emotionally, consciously or unconsciously. That's why it's so hard for them to feel happy or experience well-being.

1. Be busy, unhurried

Work is not only a means to obtain sustenance or money. Working is a way to develop our skills and potential to evolve as human beings.

The healthy thing is that we work on something that we like and that we do it without haste or haste. Time should be organized so that the equilibration work with rest. Different studies prove that doing tasks without haste allows us to stay focused and be more productive.

2. Get enough sleep

Being happy, according to science, also depends on the quantity and quality of the dream. Contrary to what many thinks, don't fall asleep to rest. During sleep, the brain is more active than ever.

There is a much-cited experiment in this regard. It was carried out with people suffering from depression. They were divided into three groups. The first one was given medication only. The second, exercise only. And to the third, a combination of medicines and exercise.

After a month, all had improved in a similar proportion. However, after three months a significant difference was found. In the first group, 38% again had symptoms of depression. In the second group, 31%. And in the third group, only 9%. Therefore, being happy, according to science, also has to do with exercising.

4. Having five very close relationships

Human beings are essentially sociable, so the conditions of civilization lead us to adopt individualistic behaviors. Basically, we all need others, their recognition, their company and their affection.

One research found that those who had five or more significant relationships in their lives were twice as likely to say they felt very happy. A meaningful relationship is understood as one in which you can trust, be yourself and share confidences.

5. Leave home

It is good to reserve time to be at home, but staying locked up is not a good alternative. It has been shown that a walk of 20 minutes a day, through outdoor spaces, exerts an extremely positive influence on our mood.

The University of Sussex, in the United Kingdom, conducted an investigation in this regard. They concluded that people felt particularly happy in warm places, walking near the sea. Also, a similar effect occurred in rural environments, but not in urban ones.

6. Book time for fun

The psychologist Dan Gilbert did a study about the relationship between time spent on fun and happiness. He found that people not only enjoy carrying out entertaining activities but also planning them.

In particular, it was found that people feel happy planning dinners, parties, and trips. Therefore, the feeling of satisfaction sometimes extends for several weeks. It was also found that people are happier spending on experiences than on objects.

7. Meditate and thank

There is a famous experiment on meditation, conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital. The brain of the patients was scanned, before and after carrying out mindfulness meditation exercises. Thus it was evidenced that after meditation the zones associated with stress showed a minimal activity.

On the other hand, the Journal of Happiness Studies published a study on gratitude. 219 people were asked to write thank-you letters for three weeks. The symptoms were compared before and after the exercise. Thus it was verified that the symptoms of depression disappeared with this simple activity.

These are just some of the ways to be happy, according to science. Scientific knowledge, then, confirms that it is the way of living and what is in the mind that makes us happy. The external little or nothing counts.
